Noe Valley

The centrally-located San Francisco neighborhood of Noe Valley is a charming residential area full of distinctive row houses. The neighborhood is bordered by Dolores Street to the east, 30th Street to the south, Grand View Avenue to the west, and 21st Street to the North. The Castro lies just north of Noe Valley, with the Mission District to the east.

Mostly developed in the early 20th Century, Noe Valley has the highest concentration of San Francisco’s iconic row houses of any of the city’s neighborhoods. It’s common to find three or four of these attractive Victorian and Edwardian homes on the same street, while some streets contain up to a dozen.

The five-block Fair Oaks Street section contains some of San Francisco’s most expensive real estate, with lavish luxury homes hidden behind mature tree cover.

Noe Valley’s attractive homes and incredibly convenient location mean it’s an area in consistently high demand.

Noe Valley’s combination of a central location with a quiet residential atmosphere has made it a popular neighborhood among young families. The streets are calm but full of life, with young parents pushing strollers and locals walking their dogs. In fact, many locals refer to the neighborhood as ‘Stroller Town’ due to the preponderance of young parents in the neighborhood. Traffic flow through Noe Valley is light compared to other areas of the city, adding to its peaceful residential feel.

 

The streets leading from Noe Valley to the Mission District are home to some of Silicon Valley’s most famous names, including Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter’s Evan Williams.

 

24th Street is lined with great local businesses, including cheese shops, cafes, bakeries, and wine shops. Highlights include delectable Mediterranean and southwestern food at SAVOR and neighborhood favorite Bernie’s coffee. There’s also a Whole Foods Market. A smaller strip of businesses can be found along Church Street.

 

A weekly farmers’ market is held each Saturday year-round, serving a range of fresh produce and other goods near the 24th and Church Street intersection.
