Mission Dolores is known for its nightlife. Walk along any of the neighborhood’s streets on any given evening and you can find everything from comedy to music to live readings. With a host of places to catch a show or spend an evening, finding the right one can be tough. Whether you like jazz or hip-hop, bluegrass, or rock ‘n’ roll, there is a place for you in The Mission. Here are the five best live music venues in Mission Dolores.

The Chapel

As its name implies, The Chapel is a former chapel that was converted into a music venue. The inside features a 40-foot arched ceiling and a topnotch bar, along with a wide-ranging list of live acts. With such an eclectic mix of artists making their way through The Chapel, there is definitely a show for everyone. All ages are welcome, and The Chapel is conveniently located close to public transit (there is no parking outside the venue).

For over 16 years, this small venue has been serving The Mission by bringing in acts performing everything from bluegrass to jazz and everything in between. Amnesia focuses on showcasing local acts, such as The Alternating Currents, and local comedians. With an exceptional bar pouring the best West Coast craft beer and wine and hosting shows every night, Amnesia is an incredible spot to take in a live show.

The Lost Church

The goal of this intimate theater is to provide space for local and touring acts and artists. With only 50 seats, The Lost Church offers space for more intriguing and intimate performances than larger venues do. And it's more than just a venue. The Lost Church is a nonprofit that promotes creating and sustaining small performance spaces for live performances.

Brick and Mortar Music Hall

Located at the northern edge of The Mission, Brick and Mortar Music Hall is an open venue that presents a wide variety of acts. With hip-hop, funk, soul, jazz, classical, and more performers, there is something for everyone at this top venue.

The Valencia Room

This new music venue and bar promotes a diverse range of local and touring music while staying true to the culture and vibe of The Mission. Inhabiting the space previously held by the iconic dive bar The Elbo Room, The Valencia Room is a small venue where guests can enjoy top DJs and great live music. The bar is stocked with staple classic cocktails, as well as creative concoctions that will have you coming back for more.
