Purchase top-of-the-line produce while supporting local vendors at these three excellent farmers’ markets.

San Francisco is home to some amazing neighborhoods, and Bernal Heights is one of the best in the city. Offering a quick downtown commute, some incredible panoramic views, and a great shopping scene, Bernal Heights is an urban neighborhood with a small-town feel and boasts some of the more affordable housing prices in the city

With all this to offer, it’s hard to think Bernal Heights can get much better. And yet, while San Francisco as a whole has some incredible farmers’ markets sporting fresh local produce from some amazing local farms and producers, some of the best are located in and around Bernal Heights. Here are the three best farmers’ markets near Bernal Heights to keep your cooking fresh and local.

Alemany Farmers’ Market

Known as the People’s Market, the Alemany Farmers’ Market is the oldest farmers’ market in the city. Founded in 1943, Alemany was actually the first farmers’ market in California. It was originally used as a place to sell surplus crops during the Second World War, before eventually growing into what it is today. The market moved to its current location on Alemany in 1947 and has been a staple of the community ever since. Expect affordable prices and a great community representing many small local farms. With the added bonus of free parking, Alemany Farmers’ Market is a must!

  • Where to find it: 100 Alemany Blvd at Peralta Ave
  • When to find it: Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mission Community Market

Located just outside of Bernal Heights in The Mission, Mission Community Market is home to over 80 vendors, many of which are women-owned. This smaller market has a great, personal feel. Open every Thursday, the market teams up with bilingual educators and local performers, making this market one check out!

  • Where to find it: Bartlett St and 22nd St
  • When to find it: Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. (April-November)

Noe Valley Farmers’ Market

Every Saturday, you can find incredible local produce just next door to Bernal Heights at the Noe Valley Farmers’ Market. Located in the Noe Valley Town Square, this market started to fill the void created by the loss of the neighborhood’s local food store over a decade ago. Here, you’ll find some of the best fruits and vegetables in Northern California, where all of the produce comes from local vendors.

  • Where to find it: 3861 24th St at Vicksburg St
  • When to find it: Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
