Enjoy the end of summer under the open skies with the area’s best outdoor dining.
As the calendar turns, the end of summer draws closer. Schools are back in session, baseball season is nearing the playoffs, and days are starting to get just a little shorter. But that doesn’t mean summer is over. Evenings are still warm and pleasant, and there is no better time to eat a tasty meal alfresco-style. And though Noe Valley is known more for strollers and puppies than its dining options, there are some incredible places to explore. Whether it’s a family dinner or date night, here are the three best alfresco dining spots in Noe Valley.
Novy
This family-owned Greek staple has been in the neighborhood since the 1970s. Started by John Gianaras in 1977, the restaurant was originally named Panos’, after his father. Following an expansion in 1988, Panos’ transitioned into a popular fine-dining spot. Flash forward a couple of generations and you have Novy, run by Gianara’s granddaughters Kristen and Kathryn. The two serve up Greek and California staples in a more casual environment. Savor a glass of wine along with a traditional moussaka alfresco at this family- and woman-owned restaurant.
Valley Tavern
The Valley Tavern is the perfect place to enjoy a beer on an exceptional patio. Named “Best Patio Bar” by San Francisco magazine, this is the place to grab your favorite pint after calling it a day at the office. Try one of their famous bloody marys or one of the countless beers on tap. Expect a chilled-out atmosphere and friendly service. Stop by to watch a game, play pool, or just soak up the sunshine.
Noe’s Cantina
This no-frills cantina on the corner of Church and 24th is a fun place to sit outside and dine on handmade tortillas and exceptional margaritas. After a hiatus, Noe’s is back in the neighborhood, serving up delicious Mexican food in a relaxed environment. Bring the whole family for an evening you won’t forget.
